SCREENWRITING   REQUIREMENTS   A. ARTIST STATEMENT — One page maximum, may be single-spaced, 11-12 point font   Tell us about your work and what you would like to focus on while in residence. Jurors appreciate understanding who you are as a screenwriter and about your creative process. Please do NOT include your name or biographical information on this document (due to our blind jury). Your application will automatically be assigned a number.   B. WORK SAMPLES — TWENTY pages maximum, standard industry format: 11-12 point font   This can be a work-in-progress, already produced film, excerpts from longer work, a selection of shorts: submit what you feel makes for the strongest and clearest example of your best work. If desired, you can add ONE additional page explaining any contexts for the work you feel are important for the jury to know. Please do NOT include biographical information on this document (due to our blind jury).

C. BIOGRAPHICAL STATEMENT — Jurors will NOT have access to this document, you can write specific biographical info here. One page maximum, may be single-spaced, 11-12 point font, narrative form, third person (not CV). List relevant educational background and professional experience along with your accomplishments to date. Add a sentence or two as to how you found about/decided to apply to the Millay Arts.   D. SCHEDULING PREFERENCES (see ** below for more information)   .   Choose up to three potential residency months/periods. Include preferences in Contact section of your application.   OCTOBER 1st deadline applications/accepted candidates are scheduled between April-July. MARCH 1st deadline applications/accepted candidates are scheduled for August-November

June & September have 1/2 sessions also available.   E. NAMED FELLOWSHIPS -- If you would like to be considered for one of our named fellowships, please indicate your eligibility. Please note that YOU ARE NOT REQUIRED to fulfill any of these to be considered for a Core Residency. While we continuously seek to provide stipends to offset travel/materials/expenses, at this time very few of these opportunities include that funding.   CHARM CITY FELLOW AND BEYOND: Awarded to TWO applicants yearly (any discipline), from MD, PA, D.C., NJ, VA & VI. Preference given to Baltimore/BIPOC applicants. Includes travel stipend. NANCY GRAVES FELLOW: Awarded to ONE applicant whose prior work is archive-based (or a creator with this desire) that "mines" the Nancy Graves Memorial Library collection at Steepletop as a site for research and inspiration for the creation of a unique piece. (Note: at this time, there is no stipend attached to this fellowship.) VINCENT PRIZE FELLOW: Awarded to TWO applicants who identify as trans*/genderqueer; may include stipend, amount dependent on funding. If an issue comes up after submitting the application, email residency@millayarts.org to open up editing.   DEADLINES   MARCH 1 - 11:59pm EST — Submittable portal opens mid-November   FOR RESIDENCIES: AUGUST/SEPTEMBER/OCTOBER/NOVEMBER   OCTOBER 1 - 11:59 midnight EST — Submittable portal opens mid-April   FOR RESIDENCIES: APRIL/MAY/JUNE/JULY   RESIDENCY SCHEDULING   ** In general, sessions are offered each month and last 3-1/2 weeks. We also offer 12-day sessions in June and September. If you would like to be considered for a shorter residency, please include a note in the CONTACT INFORMATION section of your application and state your preference.   SELECTION PROCESS   Jurors are invited as practicing professionals (local, regional and national critics, academics and artists) and/or alumni and change yearly. (If you apply for both rounds in a single year, your work will be seen by the same panel twice.)   Our jury process is BLIND to ensure that accepted resident’s work is judged wholly on merit: your name or other identifying information should be removed from submission statement and work sample (we assign numbers to all applications).   QUESTIONS?
